Barry to learn fate on Tuesday

will discover on Tuesday whether he will be fit to take part in England's World Cup campaign.

The Manchester City midfielder has been sidelined since May 5 when he damaged ankle ligaments in a Premier League game against Tottenham.

Barry did not travel to Austria with Fabio Capello's provisional 30-man squad for South Africa and will play no part in Monday's warm-up game against Mexico at Wembley.

Instead the 29-year-old former Aston Villa captain will undergo a rigorous set of tests with the England medical staff on Tuesday before Capello makes a final decision on his participation in the upcoming tournament.

The Italian will cut seven players from his provisional squad when he names his final 23-man party for South Africa on June 1.

"Barry is one of the players we want to be fit," said Capello.

"If he is fit, he will come with us. If not, he will stay at home."
